Carolina Conference on Queer Youth

We invite you to participate in the fifth annual Carolina Conference on Queer Youth in Charlotte. The conference will convene at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the Student Union on Friday, October 13, 2017. The conference is presented through a partnership of Equality NC, Time Out Youth Center, and the UNC Charlotte Multicultural Resource Center.

We are seeking presentation and workshop proposals from individuals (adults and youth) and organizations. Proposals should be clearly tied to the conference focus and grounded in the celebration, empowerment, and support of LGBTQ youth in the South. Standard presentation length is 60 minutes. Conference attendees will include healthcare professionals, educators, K-12 school and college staff, community activists, and youth.

The 2017 conference will place an emphasis on supporting LGBTQ youth health. Topics for proposals may include, but are not limited to, access to healthcare, healthcare for transgender youth, mental health, self-care, disability and ableism, HIV/STI testing and prevention, PrEP, substance and alcohol abuse, self-injury and suicide prevention, and inclusive sex education. Proposals unrelated to the theme will also be considered. Priority will be given to proposals that align with the conference theme and focus on supporting marginalized groups within the broader LGBTQ community, including youth of color, transgender and gender expansive youth, undocumented youth, homeless youth, and youth living with HIV. Youth (and youth/adult co-presenters) are highly encouraged to submit proposals.

The conference committee asks that all sessions are interactive for participants and that presenters provide useful resources for participants to take home (handouts, resource lists/guides, brochures, etc.).

Timeline for submissions:
Deadline for Proposal Submissions: Friday, September 8, 2017
Notification of Selection to Presenters: Friday, September 15, 2017
