Equality NC Announces 2014 Candidate Picks

Raleigh, N.C. (Sept. 15, 2014) – Today Equality NC, North Carolina’s statewide Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) advocacy group, and Equality NC Action Fund, the political action committee (PAC) of Equality NC, announced candidate selections for the 2014 General Election.

Equality NC announced recommended federal candidates in 2014 U.S. Congressional races. Equality NC Action Fund announced candidate endorsements for the N.C. Supreme Court, N.C. Court of Appeals, and both chambers of the N.C. General Assembly.

“We are excited to announce our support for candidates who have demonstrated through both their words and, and more importantly, their actions, a true commitment to equality for all North Carolinians,” said Chris Sgro, Executive Director of Equality NC and the Equality NC Action Fund. “By evaluating their responses to our questionnaire, reviewing their voting records, and seeing first-hand their work in our community, we are happy to not only recommend these candidates to North Carolina voters, but encourage all fair-minded citizens to support them through volunteerism, financially, and most importantly, at the ballot box.”

Both Equality NC and Equality NC Action Fund evaluate candidates using multiple factors, including responses to an issue-based questionnaire, candidate interviews, public position statements, and past voting records.

Additional pro-equality candidates may be added to the endorsement lists in the weeks leading up to the start of one-stop early voting on October 23, 2014.
