Equality NC Monitoring Brutal Crime in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. (Nov. 13, 2014) -- Equality NC has been carefully monitoring a violent crime committed in Greensboro in the early morning hours of Nov. 9. The victim was reportedly robbed, beaten, and set on fire after meeting his attacker at a local gay bar. You can read the Qnotes account here and the WFMY Channel 2 News account here.

"We do not yet know the full details of this crime, but anytime a person is harmed, especially in such violent fashion, it is a tragedy regardless of circumstances. Equality NC is in communication with the Mayor and the City of Greensboro to determine exactly what happened and make sure that the crime is fully investigated," Chris Sgro, Executive Director of Equality North Carolina said.

For now, we do not know details of this particular brutal attack. It is incumbent upon us to pay diligent attention to the investigation.

"Greensboro is the city that I call home with my husband. Crimes like these are terrible regardless of motivation in the Gate City or anywhere else. We are paying close, personal attention to this matter and know the City of Greensboro, Mayor Nancy Vaughan, and the Greensboro Police Department are fully and competently looking into this terrible crime," Sgro said.
