Equality NC's #GetEngagedNC Campaign Continues with Piedmont Regional Event

From the #GetEngagedNC Piedmont event, four generations of North Carolinians in the Lowe Family committed to getting engaged in the work of moving North Carolina forward on issues of equality.
Equality NC continued its #GetEngagedNC campaign on March 1 with Saturday's Piedmont Regional event in Greensboro focused on reengaging Triangle, Triad and Charlotte area community activists to move the state forward on issues of equality. Combining community cultural work and civic engagement, #GetEngagedNC is Equality NC's flagship campaign focused on engaging and mobilizing networks of support to promote basic LGBT and allied visibility as well as a growing electoral presence.
The day-long #GetEngaged training hosted by Equality NC Foundation, drew a packed audience of community organizers and organizations, campus activists, faith and business leaders, as well as those interested in mobilizing pro-equality voters in 2014.
Representatives from national, state and North Carolina regional organizations were also in attendance, including ACLU of North Carolina, Community Alliance for Equality, PFLAG, Time Out Youth, North Carolina AIDS Action Network, Interfaith Alliance, LGBT Democrats of North Carolina, Olive Branch Ministries, and North Carolina Chapters of the NAACP, as well as local Electeds for Equality including council members, mayors, and state legislators.
Despite the diverse audience, the day's focus remained on hyper-local strategies for engaging and connecting Piedmont North Carolina's many LGBT and allied activists and organizations in the important work of creating a living equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) North Carolinians and their allies, as well as building a leadership base that can move pro-equality voters to the polls in this important election year.
Ben Church, Equality NC's deputy director of organizing told the capacity crowd, "great leaders build relationships from the heart..ones that can span a lifetime."
The #GetEngagedNC Piedmont Regional event is the second of three day-long institutes focused on engaging local communities on important LGBT issues and actions. The winter series will conclude with an event in Eastern NC (Wilmington, March 8).

And this Saturday, I'll be leading Equality NC Foundation's #GetEngagedNC Western Regional Institute in Boone. Join me.
