CLT MEDIA EVENT: Pro-LGBT Leaders Applaud Federal “Equality Act”
LGBT Advocates and Allies to Host Charlotte Press Conference Following Introduction of Historic Federal Legislation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Equality NC, North Carolina’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) advocacy organization, will host a joint media event with coalition partners from the Equality Federation Institute’s Summer Meeting in Charlotte to respond to the Thursday, introduction of the Equality Act.
The legislation would provide vital protections for LGBT Americans in all aspects their lives, including housing, credit, education, public accommodations, federal funding, jury services, and employment. Bill sponsors in the U.S. Senate are Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ). House sponsors are Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) and Rep. John Lewis (D-GA).
WHAT: Equality NC, Equality Federation Institute, and the Human Rights Campaign will host a joint press conference, alongside national LGBT leaders and local community members, to respond to introduction of the Equality Act.
WHEN: Thursday, July 23rd at 1:30 p.m.
WHERE: The Westin Charlotte (601 S College St, Charlotte, NC 28202) Tryon Room.
WHO: Speakers will include: Chris Sgro of Equality NC and Rebecca Isaacs of Equality Federation Institute, along with other national LGBT leaders.
The Equality Federation Institute’s Summer Meeting is an annual conference featuring representatives of state equality groups from across the country. This year’s Summer Meeting is being held at the The Westin Charlotte (601 S College St, Charlotte, NC 28202) and will host nearly 200 LGBT activists.
